Surf gear
An important piece of surf gear is the wetsuit. This neoprene suit
fits snugly over your body and keeps you warm when the water is cold.
A wetsuit comes in two variations: with or without arm and leg sleeves.
For the fashion conscious surfer a more problematic piece of surf gear
is the surfboard leash. The surfboard leash is also known as a leg rope,
but among the cool is not-so-lovingly known as the kook cord. It was
invented in 1971 as a safety device.
While more advanced surfers might be able to make do without a leash,
a beginner should definitely buy this piece of surf gear. In heavy surf
the leash helps prevents you from getting caught in the rip current.
While purists insist the leash makes the sport somewhat less appealing,
for beginners this piece of gear is requisite for safe surfing.
